Privacy
There is no account, no cookie and no advertising identifier. The site does count its visitors: each page load is recorded by Umami, a cookie-free analytics tool — what it records, and what it cannot, is set out below. Beyond those counts we operate no database and no logging pipeline. What follows is the part that matters more: what our providers see, which is not nothing.
How the site knows where you are
Cloudflare, which serves this site, attaches an approximate location to every request as it arrives at the nearest data centre. We read four values from it: latitude, longitude, city name and time zone. This comes from the network connection, not from your device — the browser never asks your permission because the browser is never involved, and the accuracy is roughly that of a city, not a street.
If any of those values are missing or unusable, the site falls back to London and says so on the page.
What leaves this site
To draw your UV curve we need a forecast for a point on the map. We round the coordinates to
four decimal places, add the altitude, and send them to the MET Norway Locationforecast API at
api.met.no. The request identifies itself as uvhour.com bonjour@agencedebord.com, which their
terms require. Nothing else goes with it: no IP address forwarded by us, no identifier, no
cookie, and nothing about your skin type or what you did on the page.
What is cached, and for how long
Each forecast is kept for 15 minutes — MET Norway requires consumers to cache, and the figure changes slowly enough that this costs you nothing. The cache entry is keyed on the rounded coordinates and the altitude, and it lives in Cloudflare's edge cache, shared by everyone served from the same data centre. No identifier is attached to it and it expires on its own. Two people in the same town are served the same entry, which is the point.
How visits are counted
Every page load on this site is recorded by Umami, an open-source analytics
tool, at trafic.debord.eu. A page view carries the page URL, the referring site,
your browser, operating system, device type, language, and a country derived from your IP
address. The IP address itself is not stored: Umami tells visitors apart with a hash built on a
salt that rotates every day, so even we cannot recognise you from one day to the next, and
nothing follows you to another site. No cookie is involved, which is why there is no cookie
banner.
We use these counts to see which pages are read and which are not. If your browser or ad blocker blocks the script, the site works identically. Umami documents exactly what it collects at umami.is/docs.
What our providers see that we do not
This is the honest part, and the reason a claim like "not stored, not logged" is only half of an answer. We store nothing. Our providers are separate companies running their own infrastructure, with their own logs and their own policies:
- Cloudflare hosts and serves every page. Every request passes through it, including your IP address, and it keeps its own logs under its own privacy policy — read it at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
- MET Norway receives the rounded coordinates and our contact string on every cache miss, and operates its own logging as the Norwegian Meteorological Institute. Their terms are at api.met.no/doc/TermsOfService.
We have no access to either set of logs, and we cannot delete anything in them on your behalf. If that matters to you, those two policies are the ones to read — not this page.
The iPhone app
The app has no server of its own. There is no backend to send anything to, which is why it works the way it does:
- Location comes from iOS, at kilometre accuracy, with the "while using the app" permission you grant. Turning those coordinates into a place name uses Apple's geocoding service, which means iOS sends them to Apple, under Apple's privacy policy rather than ours.
- Forecasts are fetched by your phone directly from MET Norway, with a contact string identifying the app. They do not pass through us.
- Your skin type, settings and session history are stored on the device and shared with the app's own widgets. They are never transmitted anywhere. Deleting the app deletes them.
- Notifications are scheduled locally by your phone, in advance. Nothing is pushed from a server, because there is no server.
- Purchases go through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment and tells the app whether the subscription is active; we never see your payment details, and we hold no purchase records of our own.
- There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporter and no advertising identifier in the iPhone app. The Umami page counting described above is on the website only; the app sends nothing of the kind.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may ask any company holding your personal data to show it, correct it or delete it. The visit counts described above are the only data we keep, and they hold no identifier that survives the day — so there is nothing we could show or delete, and no way to recognise you if you asked. Requests about the logs described above have to go to Cloudflare or MET Norway directly.

Changes
This page describes the site and app as they are built today. If the data flows change, this page changes with them — it is written from the same constants the code uses, so it cannot drift quietly. UV Hour is published by AGENCE DEBORD EURL.
